DCAmfg grows business with USDA loan, becomes IS0 9001:2008 certified

CUMBERLAND, Wis. (March 19, 2014) – DCA Manufacturing Corporation (DCAmfg) announces an ongoing quality initiative that began with the completion of a major facilities expansion last July and officially kicks off with ISO 9001:2008 certification this March. The initiative ushers in an era of higher standards for both products and customer service.

DCAmfg has added 14,000 square feet to allow for upgraded equipment, more efficient workstations, greater employee safety, and prototyping to offer customers faster turnaround on new projects

The expansion was made possible by a $1 million-dollar Rural Economic Development Loan (REDLoan) awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The REDLoan program aims to foster and maintain job growth in rural areas by granting interest-free loans to local utilities for business projects.

Cumberland Municipal Utility acted as the intermediary between USDA and DCAmfg, while Cumberland Federal Bank was instrumental in the application process. Both organizations donated time and resources out of a common desire to serve the Cumberland area.

The expansion has allowed DCAmfg to more easily pursue ISO 9001:2008 certification, official recognition of compliance with standards for quality management systems set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Piloted by Quality Manager Sara Christenson, DCAmfg has implemented many quality-related initiatives in conjunction with its preparation for ISO 9001:2008 certification, everything from a recycling program to customer service audits.

DCAmfg believes these advancements will better serve customers and lead to 10 percent annual growth and at least 20 new employee positions over the next decade.

Director of Operations Carl Proescholdt and Chief Financial Officer Julie Schnacky maintain that such vast improvements would not be possible without Rice Lake Weighing Systems (RLWS) of Rice Lake, Wis., DCAmfg’s first and largest customer. The feeling is mutual:

“DCAmfg has been a critical part of our rapid growth at RLWS. Their quick responsiveness has been integral to our success,” says Chief Operations Officer Steve Parkman. “We’re proud to have partnered with such a great company and look forward to a long-term relationship with them.”

Its community approach sets DCAmfg apart and begins with the employees. Each has been crucial to the realization of strategic planning efforts by remaining flexible and eager to contribute. Without their vision and dedication, DCAmfg would not have grown during economic recession.

The company feels a great responsibility to its internal and external communities, acknowledging they are one in the same.

“At least 70 families rely on DCAmfg to be here tomorrow,” says General Manager James Beard. “We take that seriously.”
